First Few Days Around Chyhyryn

The three of us (Chris, Kate, and Kim that’s me!) have really been having a great time. It’s a little chilly with the rain the past few days, when you are out site seeing. Thankfully there are more restaurants than there was ten years ago and we are able to stop and have home brewed tea when we need it!

I think we are mostly over our jet lag. Each of us has been taking afternoon naps! They are feeding us every chance they get. Make sure to ask Kate and Chris how they are enjoying the food!!

We have gotten some fantastic photos and Chris is shooting some video. So look forward to some great presentations when we get home. I think I am averaging 230 photos for half a day! Thank you Mom for the 4gig card for my camera!

Okay so I sent two emails around, but am now going to be blogging (is that a word?? :) ) as much as I can so everyone can read it.

After doing the official visit with the Chyhyryn Administration, we visited Bogdan Hill, which over looks the town. Even in the rain we got a beautiful view.

Then it was off site seeing around the outskirts of Chyhyryn. There is so much history around here, some of it happy and a lot of it sad due to the many wars that have gone on in the past. We have seen a working monastery, a historical Stone Age archaeological dig, the reconstruction of Bogdan’s estate, and we even visited the village cottage of a very nice lady, who’s grandchildren were very cute!

Today we are off to Cherkasy, which is Santa Rosa’s Sister City. If Sebastopol is like Chyhyryn, then when we go to visit Cherkasy it is like taking a trip from Sebastopol to Santa Rosa in size comparison. And when we go to Kiev, it is like taking a trip to San Francisco. So in Cherkasy we will visit the Market and some historical sites. Tomorrow it is off to Kiev for two or three days so we I will try to blog tonight, but then you will not hear from us for a few days!

So keep the emails coming!! For those of you who have not gotten to write yet, this would be a good time, so that we have something to read when we get back! We miss you all!

I will attempt to post pictures on my next blog!
