After a variety of experiences during yesterdays family day, the group was together again today to tour Yamauchi starting with city hall. (Will and Leaf, they have a SWF area with all of our gifts displayed!) We met elementary students in the morning and seniors in the afternoon (the kids were incredible ambassadors and bridged the age gap tremendously). We met the ONE Yamauchi policeman where the station is little more than a room off of his house, and surprised the fire department with an unscheduled stop! Also was welcomed at the temple with a small lesson in Buddist prayer and practice.
Lunch was an organic buffet - so different than anything I`ve seen before but delicious. I think I have eaten more fish the last four days than my entire life!!! (Ask me about the sushi bar when I get home!)
We have all caught up with the time difference and are getting the hang of Japanese home life. Language doesn`t seem so foreign and our "arigato`s" are coming faster and easier. Even slippers seem more natural. Unfortunately, Kathy and I have to leave our new found comfort for new host families. I am sure they will be wonderful and we will, hopefully, adjust quickly.
No blogging tomorrow as we are spending the night at Mt. Kurokami camp then Nagasaki on Wednesday. But attached are a couple pictures to keep you company!
